Songpi: The United Kuki Youth Council (UKYC) has issued a clarification regarding the alleged beheading of a Naga civilian on October 12, 2026, and the ultimatum issued by Human Rights International Federation (HRIF) and Naga organizations.
In a press statement bearing Ref No: UKYC/PR/2026/22 dated 13th October 2026, issued by its Information & Publicity Secretary from its administrative office at Songpi, Lamka, the Council acknowledged that the recent beheading of a Naga civilian is true. However, it said the incident should be viewed in the historical context of the 1993 Kuki Genocide.
The UKYC stated that before demanding justice for the recent case, justice should be delivered for more than 100 Kuki people who were allegedly beheaded and over 1000 massacred in 1993. In its statement, the Council alleged that the 1993 killings were carried out by NSCN-IM under Th. Muivah. It demanded that those cases be brought back and justice be delivered first.
Questioning the role of human rights bodies, the Council asked where the Human Rights International Federation (HRIF) was for the last 33 years. It alleged that no ultimatum, no justice, and no condemnation was issued against Th. Muivah and NSCN-IM for the alleged brutal beheading and massacre of Kuki civilians till today. The Council termed the approach selective.
Strongly condemning what it called the selective approach of HRIF and Naga organizations, the UKYC said justice cannot be selective. It maintained that human rights standards must be applied equally to all communities and all incidents, irrespective of the time period.
Regarding the burning of Kamjong Police Station, which has been linked to the current tension, the UKYC claimed it was not done by Kuki people. According to the Council, the station was burnt by Naga miscreants themselves to divert the issue arising out of the beheading incident.
Appealing for peace, the Council urged all parties not to escalate the issue with what it called false propaganda. At the same time, it warned that if HRIF and Naga bodies continue to harass Kuki civilians in the name of the recent beheading while ignoring the 1993 beheadings, it will be compelled to take strong measures.
The Council stated that it will impose an indefinite blockade on National Highway No. 202, a vital lifeline connecting the region. The statement concluded with the line: “The Naga Beheading is True, But Bring Back Those 100+ Kuki Beheadings of 1993 Genocide First!”
