Kangpokpi: The Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO), Sadar Hills Twilang Block has served a final ultimatum to the Deputy Commissioner of Kangpokpi demanding that all essential commodities arranged in Kangpokpi for Twilang Area / IT Road must be allowed to reach without any limit on number of vehicles on or before 23rd September 2026.
In a 3-page ultimatum letter Ref No. KSO-TB/UL-01/2026 dated 21/09/2026, signed by President Letkhochon Chongloi and General Secretary Kaiminthang Khongsai, the organisation which represents more than 30 villages of Twilang Area said it is not demanding 2 to 3 vehicles anymore.
The letter addressed to the DC through the SDO T. Waichong Sub-Division stated that the DC’s own letter No. DC(KPI)/1/1/L&O/2016 dated 26-08-2026 to increase vehicles from 2 to 3 has not been implemented till date by 112 Bn CRPF. Only one supply with 2 vehicles was sent from 26th August till today, September 21. The KSO said this itself proves that the system has failed.
Stating ground reality, KSO said the economic blockade at Chawangkining and Thonglang is still continuing. Security forces advise Kuki public not to provoke the imposer / blockader instead of removing it. The organisation said blocking public movement and imposing economic blockade on one community is illegal, unconstitutional, violates Fundamental Rights under Article 19 & 21 of the Constitution of India and amounts to collective punishment, punishable under relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
KSO further alleged that Kuki public movement on IT Road has been blocked / controlled for the past 3 to 6 months. Students, patients, and daily wage earners are not allowed to move freely. The student body asked what legal action has been taken against those imposing the blockade, noting that not a single action has been taken by the Government till today. It said 2 vehicles for 30 villages once a month is itself an economic blockade imposed by the Government itself. “It is a silent killing – letting people die without firing a bullet, by blocking their daily necessities,” the letter stated.
In a strong demand, KSO said if DC Kangpokpi cannot ensure SP Kangpokpi and 112 Bn CRPF implement his own order, they should be removed from the Twilang area. It clarified that every confrontation on the IT Road from the Kuki side is a retaliation against this prolonged economic blockade and illegal controlling of public movement.
In an additional point, KSO Twilang Block said till today, it has never blocked public movement or security movement in the Twilang area despite immense provocation, as it believes in peace. However, if the restriction on Kuki public movement and the economic blockade at Chawangkining and Thonglang is not resolved and unlimited vehicles are not allowed before 23rd September 2026, the KSO Twilang Block will be compelled to impose a total blockade on all vehicular movement along IT Road.
The organisation also announced that if the demand is not met, the general public will move en-masse from Kangpokpi to IT Road on 24th September 2026 to bring their own essentials. It warned that if any unwanted incident happens during this public movement on 24th September, DC Kangpokpi, SP Kangpokpi and CO, 112 Bn CRPF shall be solely and fully responsible.
