The Eastern Kuki Chiefs’ Association on Thursday condemned Kamjong MLA Leishiyo Keishing for what it called “partial and biased conduct” in his response to recent violence in the district, saying the elected representative failed to support Kuki villagers after Lanchah village was burnt down while personally visiting and expressing sympathy for three Tangkhul villages affected by separate incidents. The EKCA said the contrast in response has deepened mistrust and raised questions about impartial governance in a mixed constituency.

In a press release issued from Kamjong, the EKCA said it was “deeply unfortunate” that the MLA remained silent when Lanchah, a Kuki village, was set ablaze and residents suffered loss and trauma, with no meaningful support or solidarity extended. By contrast, the association noted, Keishing visited Namlee, Choro, and Wangli — villages belonging to his own Tangkhul community — and publicly expressed concern after those areas were affected. The chiefs’ body described the difference as “selective concern” and “discriminatory behaviour” unbecoming of a public representative.
The association argued that an MLA is elected to serve every citizen equally, regardless of tribe or community, and that voters expect justice, morality, and impartial service from their representative. “When an elected leader openly demonstrates partiality during times of suffering and conflict, it raises serious questions about coexistence, trust, and harmony among different communities living in the same region,” the EKCA statement said. It added that such actions have created “disappointment, mistrust, and division” among residents of Kamjong district.
Questioning the viability of peaceful cohabitation under what it termed “dishonest and partial leadership,” the EKCA asked how two different communities could continue to dwell together with mutual trust and confidence if their representative did not treat them equitably. The chiefs’ body said the role of an MLA demands rising above communal bias, especially during crises that affect multiple groups. It called for adherence to constitutional and moral responsibility in addressing the needs of all affected people.
The EKCA urged MLA Leishiyo Keishing to demonstrate fairness, humanity, and equal concern for all communities under his constituency. The association said impartial service is essential to restoring confidence and preventing further division in Kamjong, where Kuki and Tangkhul villages exist in close proximity. The press note was issued by the Eastern Kuki Chiefs’ Association, Kamjong District, on Thursday.
