Kamjong: The Kuki CSO Working Committee, Kamjong District has issued an unequivocal and strongest possible condemnation and debunked statements that are wrongfully circulated in the media from few Tangkhul-led Naga social media groups, clarifying facts surrounding the recent violence in Chassad village. In its press note Ref. No. KCSO/KMJ/PR-07/26 dated 19th October 2026, the committee said it is committed to monitoring every incident and refuting fake allegations and wrong narratives that bring shame upon the Kuki people.
According to the committee, fact to be put forward is that one N. Chithung, an NSCN cadre suspected to be involved in a terrorist organization, whom the Tangkhul claimed to be a Naga Village Guard was apprehended by the Chassad Village Guard on the night of October 17, 2026, while engaging in an arson act that is carried out by the NSCN-IM and its allied forces such as SNA, Tangkhul NVG. The committee stated that this particular individual was seen and witnessed by the Chassad Village Guard while the group set ablaze the Chassad Church Chowkidar Quarter, Chassad Pastor Quarter, and Church Conference Hall.
The Working Committee said while approaching to set fire on the kitchen site, the Chassad Village Guard apprehended the culprit and he was taken into Kuki custody. However, timely intervention by the 11th Assam Rifles served as a rescue mission for the culprit, it claimed. The committee acknowledged that the apprehended person may have suffered minor head injuries, a broken nose, swollen face, and injuries to his ears, ribs, and arms, but said his life was spared and described it as an act of war, alleging that Tangkhul-led NSCN-IM and its allied forces do not even spare life of women, children and civilians.
Refuting claims of a nexus between Assam Rifles and Kuki groups, the committee said the incident has nothing to do with Assam Rifles getting involved and the duty should be to appreciate the force, not despise them. It said the incident should not be termed as nexus between Assam Rifles and Kuki group, but it should be a matter of concern over the nexus between the NSCN-IM, Eastern Flank and the Shan National Army, a foreign agent harbouring the Tangkhul areas in Manipur including Kamjong Village.
On the issue of killings, the committee said the whole world has to know the truth, alleging that Tangkhul-led NSCN-IM and its allied forces killed an innocent woman named Mrs Hatneikim on 15th October 2026 in between Phaikoh and Aishi, which it termed as an act of cowardice. It further alleged that on the night of 9th October 2026 at Chassad another innocent woman named Mrs Domkhonei was killed in alignment with the IRB, on 10th October 2026 a civilian named Mr Ngamminlen who is a civil resident of Chassad was killed, and on 17th October 2026 another civilian at Chassad was killed.
Regarding arson cases in Kamjong-Chassad, the committee questioned why Kukis are being blamed, stating every incident within and out of Kamjong is initiated by Tangkhul ideologies. It alleged that on 10th October 2026, houses including their own were burnt down and for the second time on 17th October 2026, houses including Chassad Pastor Quarter, Church conference hall, etc were burnt, asking how that could be explained and whether it is supposed that Kukis burnt their own houses. The statement said, “We are not Meiteis or Tangkhuls or Liangmei whose passion is to set fire on houses.”
The Kuki CSO Working Committee said it will continue to monitor the surroundings involving every incident and will always refute fake allegations and wrong narratives. It reiterated that the narrative that Kukis burnt their own houses is false and that the documented incidents of killings of women and civilians and burning of church properties point to targeted attacks on Kuki civilians in Chassad, demanding that truth be placed on record.
The statement was issued by the Kuki CSO Working Committee, Kamjong District, PO/PS Chassad, Kamjong District, Manipur – 795145.
