Songpi, July 27, 2026: The Kuki National Assembly, North East India (KNA-NEI) has categorically rejected and denounced the proposed Separate Administration Demand Party (SADP) floated by Suspension of Operations (SoO) signatory groups, the United People’s Front (UPF) and the Kuki National Organisation (KNO).
In a press release issued from its head office at Tuibong, Songpi on July 27, the KNA-NEI stated that the SADP neither represents the democratic will and aspirations of the Kuki people nor has any democratic mandate from them.
The organisation strongly condemned what it termed as the dictatorial approach of the SoO groups, particularly the KNO and UPF. It alleged that despite being signatories to the Suspension of Operations Agreement and bound by its ground rules, including respect for the territorial integrity of Manipur, these groups have repeatedly called for the balkanisation of Manipur.
KNA-NEI further alleged that the SoO groups have engaged in coercive electioneering through voter intimidation, vote capture, private selection of candidates, and attempts to impose such candidates upon the Kuki people.
Expressing concern over what it perceives as tacit support of successive Governments of India, irrespective of whether the ruling party at the Centre is the BJP or the INC, the KNA-NEI said the Kuki people must not be compelled through force, intimidation or coercion to vote for, donate to, or surrender their democratic mandate to candidates chosen by SoO militant groups or their supporters in the name of “Separate Administration” or “Separation from Manipur.”
Recalling its history, the KNA-NEI said as the oldest socio-political organisation of the Kuki people, functioning since before the Independence of India, it has historically been committed to the territorial integrity of Manipur, including its opposition to the 1960 Sixteen-Point Agreement (Naga Accord) under the leadership of K.S. Seiboi Kipgen, then General Secretary.
However, citing the present violence and complete breakdown of trust, the KNA-NEI announced a major political shift. It has resolved to contest all Assembly constituencies in the forthcoming 13th Manipur Legislative Assembly Election, 2027, and to pursue complete political separation from the Meiteis through constitutional, democratic, and non-violent means.
As part of this campaign, the organisation said it observes the 3rd day of every month as “Separation Day.”
The statement said that under the leadership of its President, Pu Dr. Jainson Haokip, the KNA-NEI seeks the blessings and democratic mandate of the Kuki people in the 2027 election.
